Dillard "Chig" Dennis Jr. passed away peacefully at home Monday 5/28/18 at the age of 89 1/2 after an extended illness. He was born in Willow Grove TN on November 28, 1928, lived in Anderson most of his life and was the owner/operator of Dennis Service U-Haul for over 65 years where he was known for his quick smile and helping hand. He was awarded the 1975 Madison County Humanitarian of the Year Award as well as being the first ever U-Haul dealer in Anderson where he received numerous awards during his 55+ years as a dealer. Chig was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and served with the Army Air Corps/Airforce in the Philippines from 1946-48.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John.
He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Josephine (Joan) Dennis, daughters Cindy (Tom) Morris of Harlan IN, Dixie (Gary) Traylor of Brownsburg IN, son Kevin (Sharon Johnson) Dennis of Anderson, sister Judy (Don) Hendricks of Anderson, brother Jerry (Kelly) Dennis of Portland MI as well numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandson, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 1PM at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, with Pastor Tim Wilbur officiating. Burial will follow at Bronnenberg Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 2 hour prior to the service. Please use west end entrance for these services.
