YOUNG - Helen "Mema" Young, also affectionately known as "Sister Helen," passed away May 24, 2018, at the age of 83.
She was born in Cleburn County, AL on April 18, 1935, and has been a resident of Kingsland, GA for the past 10 years moving there from Yulee, FL.
Mrs. Young was a member of Wayside Church of God in Jacksonville, FL where she played piano. She loved gospel music and played piano with several Gospel singing groups. She was also a missionary serving in Central America, Honduras and Guatemala. Mrs. Young loved sewing and made beautiful quilts and was famous for her pound cake having won many blue ribbons at county fairs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Brother Bob" Young; two daughters, Carol Peeples and Penny DeSio; a sister, Louise Steel; two brothers, Hugh "Red" Townley and Harry Townley; and by a brother in law, Horace Steel.
Survivors include four sons, David Wright, Jerry Wright, Robert Wright and Alan Young; daughters, Eucala Jean Doctor and Aimie Young; a brother, Merle Townley; sister, Carolyn Lewis; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at Green Pine Cemetery.
