Obituary

Abington - James “Jim” C. Valler died peacefully May 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jane (Bowden) Valler, children: Marcia McNeil (George), Diane Garvey (Jay Call), Michael Valler (Kelli), Donna Hastings (Robert), and Sheila Bagley (Tim). Jim is also survived by his grandchildren: Billy Garvey, Kendra DelCore, Alyssa McNeil, and Allyson Valler, as well as his great-grandchildren: Kaitlin Garvey, Shane Garvey, Nick DelCore, and Matt DelCore, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary Valler and his sister Gertrude Dufresne.

He was born on March 16, 1925 in Brockton, Massachusetts to Frank and Mary Valler. Jim attended Brockton High School and like many of his generation, he entered the Navy where he served in World War II from 1943-1946. Jim and his wife brought up their family in Abington.

Jim worked in the shoe industry as a mechanic for Bostonian Shoe. He also enjoyed many years working for his close family friends at Damon’s Pontiac. Jim was also a proud member of the Abington American Legion Post 112 where he enjoyed many Saturday afternoons with friends.

Jim’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. They spent many summers camping and spending time with family friends in Maine. Jim will be remembered as a generous man who loved his family and friends.

His funeral service will be held Thursday May 31 at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday May 30 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
