Ventura, CA

Dan Thomas Stowell passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 in Ventura while surrounded by family. He will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vicki, his daughter Julie and her husband M. Kalani Souza of Hawaii, his son Jeff and his wife Gayle with their children Sonnet and Oliver of Rancho Murieta and his son Jason and his wife Nanette and son Evan of Ventura. He is also survived by his sisters Judy (Gary) Sarver of Colorado Springs, CO and Nancy (Dick) Jones of Hastings, NE and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on July 9, 1940, to parents Wesley and LaFern Stowell.

Retired for many years, Dan spent his career as a physicist for the US Navy, managing a division at the Pacific Missile Test Center.

He loved being a husband, father and grandfather. He loved reading, walking, painting, playing cards, cooking, Friday morning breakfasts with his buddies and traveling around the world. He had a love of cars and had restored a number of classic vehicles. In his retirement years, he volunteered at the VPD K9 Storefront.

A mass will be held in his honor at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church at 3175 Telegraph Road in Ventura at 10:00am on Thursday, May 31, with Father Alex Amayun officiating. Hawaiian themed attire, as Dan would want it. Arrangements are under the care of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Police Dog Foundation (NPDF), VPD K9 Unit, 1425 Dowell Drive, Ventura, CA 93003.
