Obituary

Richard J. Cancelmo, Sr., 83, of Worcester died Thursday, May 24th at home surrounded by his family. His beloved wife of 51 years, Beverly F.”Bevy” (Hester) Cancelmo died in 2008. He leaves a son, Richard J. Cancelmo, Jr. and his wife, Joanne of Brookfield; twin daughters, Cathleen A. Cancelmo and Annmarie Huberdault and her husband, David all of Worcester; his siblings, Bea Socha of Millbury, Joseph P. Cancelmo and his wife, Helene of France; Anna DesRosiers and Marie Cancelmo all of Worcester; a granddaughter, Catherine Ruth Cancelmo of Brookfield; and his best friend, John Colorio. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandson, Adam Huberdault.
He was born in Worcester the son of Joseph and Rose (Pirozzi) Cancelmo and graduated from the former High School of Commerce. Richard was a chef at the former Dark Book Restaurant. Mr. Cancelmo also worked at the Worcester Pickle Company where he made half-sours, Arc Food Wholesale and was a Realtor with his wife at ReMax Advantage 1 until his retirement. Mr. Cancelmo enjoyed antiques, puzzles, movies, gardening, restoring his Cadillac and going to the casino. He was a kind soul who was always generous to others. After his wife died he adopted a student in Haiti.
The family would like to thank Salmon Hospice, Rachel, Kelly and Adele for the compassion and care they offered Richard during his illness
Calling hours are Tuesday, May 29th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service beginning at 6:45 PM presided by his goddaughter, Rev. Gina Colorio. Burial will be at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sr. Marie-Judith Dupuy, S.S.A. Director, Haitian Apostolate, Diocese of Worcester, 49 Elm Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
