Chester F. “Chet” Hamilton age 85 of Brockton, died Tuesday May 22, 2018 at Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Barbara “Snookie” (Johnson) Hamilton for 61 years. Chet was born in in Brockton a son of the late John and Viva (Thayer) Hamilton and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
Chet was a 1950 graduate of Brockton High School and enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War. He remained in the Army Reserve and was discharged in 1960 with the rank of Sergeant.
After working for 33 years at LaBaron Foundry, Chet retired in 2001.
Chet was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed the Patriots and Red Sox. He loved to play Bingo, gardening and trips to the beach. Most importantly, he cherished time spent with his family.
Chet was the father of Bruce Hamilton and his wife Jean of Bridgewater and Cathy Phillips and her husband Fred of Norton. He leaves 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was the brother of Richard and Robert Hamilton and the late John H. Jr., Lorraine Perewicz, Pauline Gould and Clyde Hamilton.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Friday May 25 from 9-10am followed by a funeral service at 10. Burial will be in the Mass National Cemetery at 1pm.
