Gilbert “Wayne” Davis, Jr., 52, of Alapaha passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Tallahassee Memorial Health Care in Tallahassee, Florida. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Benjy Varnell officiating. A eulogy will be given by Danny Sparks. Mr. Davis will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Harrell Willis, Stephen Clements, Tristin “Buck” Clements, Tracy Green, Jamie Sellars, Bobby “Roho” Bennett and Joey Pisciotta will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the National Wild Turkey Federation; employees of UPS; and area firefighters.
Born June 20, 1965 in Tifton, Mr. Davis was the son of Rosemary Hargett Alexander and Rodney Alexander of Tifton and the late Gilbert Wayne Davis, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold Alexander, Luke Hargett and Willie B. and Thelma Davis. He was a truck driver with UPS and a volunteer firefighter in Berrien County and formerly in Tift County. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 62. He was the Alapaha River Chapter Vice President and member of the Georgia State Board of Directors for the National Wild Turkey Federation.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis is survived by his only son, Matt Davis, who was his buddy and best friend, and Matt's wife, Shiree Davis of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Chad and Stephanie Alexander of Tifton; his grandmothers, Inez Alexander of Franklin and Zelma Hargett of Tifton; a niece and nephew, Luke and Haley Alexander; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special friend, Joanna Norman.
