Rita M. (Owens) Roane, age 87, of Mansfield, passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving children, on Sunday, May 20, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late James P.H. Roane.
Born in Boston, MA on June 24, 1930, she was a loving daughter of the late Adam J. and Eva F. (Dolan) Owens.
Rita grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. She had made her home in Mansfield for the past fifty-five years, and prior to retirement had work for seventeen years at the former Mansfield Chocolate Factory, retiring as a line supervisor.
A devout Catholic, Mrs. Roane was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. Her church involvements included being a member of the Catholic Women’s Club, a CCD teacher, a respite volunteer and a former Eucharistic Minister.
When younger, Rita took flying lessons and flew airplanes. She treasured the times spent with her adoring family and had a lifelong love for music.
She is survived by her devoted children Christine M. Roane of Springfield, Kathleen A. Roane of Foxboro, Sheila C. Minnick and her husband Steve of Michigan, James P. Roane of Mansfield, Roberta “Robin” Roane of Mansfield, and Kevin P. Roane and his wife Mary of Stoughton. She was the dear sister of John Owens and his wife Marie of Stoughton, Patricia Owens of California, and the late Joe, Kay, Margie, Charlie, Carole, Bobbie and Tommy. She is also survived by her cherished 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, May 25th at 10:00 A.M. in St Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 24th from 5:00-9:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
