Obituary

Augusta, GA – Lynda S. Hensley, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend went home to live with her Lord on Saturday, May 19, 2018 while a patient at Doctor’s Hospital. She had been hospitalized several times due to a severe illness and fought it bravely.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Following the visitation, friends are invited to her son’s home in Evans. Her ashes will be interred in the family plot in West Avon, CT at a later date.

Lynda was born in Richardson’s House in Boston, Massachusetts on December 19, 1948 to the late Barbara Webber and Howard Jim Smith. Lynda was certified as a Surgical Technician and worked in the operating rooms of Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT and Doctors Hospital in Augusta, GA.

Lynda was a generous person. In addition to making financial contributions to several organizations, she also enjoyed working with children. She was a volunteer with Pack 45 Cub Scouts and enjoyed campouts, meetings, helping to make food, and decorations for banquets and other scouting events.

Lynda’s hobbies included various needlework activities (crocheting, knitting, machine embroidery, and making quilts), playing with her dogs, and traveling to experience the beautiful surroundings in the mountains and beach.

Lynda’s youth was spent in Avon, CT where she was coached by a national swimming coach. She swam every stroke in competition and was a two-time Silver Medalist in Junior National Competition.

Lynda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Erik Hensley (Nikki), five grandchildren, Lee and Abigail Hensley, Anthony, Hayden, and Lakelynn Pfluke. In addition, she is survived by two sisters and one brother, Nancy Reidy of Wilmette, IL, Jo An Clark and Scott Smith of Avon, CT. She is also survived by her best friend and roommate of 12 years, Brenda Cobb. She had many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who thought very highly of Lynda. She will be greatly missed by many in this lifetime.
