Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY ~ Everett F. "Wick" "Dumpy" Walsh, Jr., 79, of South Hadley and a former longtime resident of the Glenwood section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, May 19, 2018. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on March 28, 1939, a beloved son of the late Everett F. and Marguerite C. (Murphy) Walsh. He was raised on Silver Street and Los Angeles Street in the Glenwood section of Springfield, graduated from the former Springfield Technical High School in 1959 and had lived in Springfield before moving to South Hadley in 1974 where he lived the remainder of his life. He served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. For many years, he owned and operated Everett Associates in Springfield and was still currently working at the time of his passing. Previously, he had worked in sales and trucking since the 1960's. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield. During his younger years, Wick was a Boy Scout and, on December 28, 1954, achieved Eagle Scout. An active outdoorsman, he owned a camp that he named "The Schoolhouse" on Grout Hill in South Acworth, NH where he spent many years hunting and fishing. He was an avid member of the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Association. He also was a member of the Indian Orchard Masonic Lodge in Springfield. As a doting grandfather, he could often be found at his grandchildren's many sporting events. Above all, Wick loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Patricia J. "Pat" (Kennedy) Walsh. They were married on April 8, 1961 at Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving children, Sheila M. Orzechowski and her husband, Gene, of Chicopee and Jeffrey E. Walsh and his wife, Dianne, of Holyoke; his seven cherished grandchildren who affectionately called him "Dumpy", Samantha Orzechowski and her partner, Christopher Goonan, Kathleen Orzechowski and her partner, Christopher Silva, Jillian Orzechowski and her partner, Matthew Nichols, Drew Orzechowski, Amanda DiBuono and her husband, Phil, Margaret Walsh and her partner, Mike Kittredge, and Ryan Walsh and his partner, Becca Plasse; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Elliot "Ellie" Goonan. Wick will be watching from the Eternal City of Heaven the birth of his cherished great-grandson in July. In addition, Wick leaves his dear sister, Mary Sunter of Winchendon; his four dear brothers-in-law, James Kennedy and his wife, Mary Ellen, Timothy Kennedy and his wife, Ann, Edward Kennedy and Thomas Kennedy and his wife, Margaret; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Walsh and Kennedy families both here and in Ireland. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear sister, Ann Drost and her husband, John; his dear brother, Robert Walsh and his wife, Dawn; his dear brother-in-law, Roy Sunter; and his dear sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sheila Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Burial will be private at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in South Hadley.
