WAYLAND: Patricia A. (Dines) Newton of Wayland and Charlestown, RI died on May 15, 2018.
Beloved wife of Robert D. Newton of Wayland and Charlestown, RI. Loving mother of Christopher Newton and his wife Erin of Wayland and Matthew Newton and his wife Deanna of Charlestown, RI. Daughter of the late William and Mary (Donovan) Dines. Devoted sister of William Dines Jr and his wife Kathy of Cambridge, Maureen Fagan and her husband Paul of Plymouth, Margaret Dines and Loretta Dines both of Cambridge and the late Robert G. Dines. Cherished grandmother of Robby, Somerby, Ailie, Michael, Colin and Annie. She is also survived by her cousin Eileen Donovan and many nieces, nephews and in laws.
Growing up in Cambridge and Somerville, Pat was the oldest of the Dines girls. She graduated from St Joseph's High School. As a young woman, Pat was an avid skier. She married Robert D. Newton on Nov 20, 1976. A natural, loving mother to Chris and Matt, Pat, devoted herself to her family. She sewed Halloween costumes by hand, volunteered in the elementary school art classrooms and libraries and always nourished her family with home cooked meals. Her love was contagious and she was a second mother to many of her sons’ friends.
In addition to raising her family, Pat worked for sixteen years in the electrical industry and most recently as an administrator for the Wayland High School athletic department. Pat was a regular on the sidelines at football games, wrestling matches and lacrosse games. In 2002, the Wayland High School wrestling team recognized Pat with the distinguished “Fan of the Year” award, honoring her years of service and commitment to the wrestling team and the athletic department.
Pat was most at home by the ocean in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Cherishing her summers at the beach house, she taught her children and grandchildren how to swim, net blue crabs, dig for quahogs, and grow the geraniums. As a beloved grandmother, Pat encircled all of her grandchildren in love, caring for them every week. She was a regular on bus stop duty, never missed her grandsons’ football games, and taught her granddaughters how to sew, paint and cook.
