Obituary


Whitman – Joseph C. Saccone 82, a longtime resident of Whitman, died on Saturday, May 19th after a brief battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Quincy, Joseph was the son of the late Carmello and Pearl (Mullen) Saccone.

He graduated from Quincy High School and served for a short period of time in the National Guard. For many years following he was employed by Bethlehem Steel and General Dynamics. While still at General Dynamics, Joseph began a small excavating business, which later grew into the family business, J. Saccone & Sons, through the support and dedications of his wife and sons.

Joseph was known to the community which he serves for more than 40 years as a man who exemplified honesty and hard work and to his family and close friends as a devoted father and husband. Joseph was a well-known patron of the Whitman VFW, Post 697. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Carol K. (Woods) Saccone of Whitman and their four children; Joseph and his wife Della of Whitman, Carl and his wife Doreen of Whitman, Sandra of Cambridge and Michael and his wife Donna of Whitman. He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister Sarah P. Saccone of Quincy.

His funeral services will be held Thursday May 24th at 8:15 from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church. Burial will follow in the St James Cemetery, Whitman. Visitation will be on Wednesday May 23rd from 4:00-8:00PM.
