…former “Big Dig” Truck Driver, Veteran; 69
TEWKSBURY - Thomas Matthew Oliver, age 69, a Veteran and retired truck driver, died peacefully on Saturday morning, May 19, in the loving care of his family and hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Judith A. (Halloran) Oliver.
Tom was born in Winchester, a son of the late William and Gertrude (Callahan) Oliver, and raised in Winchester. He lived in Winchester the greater part of his life, where he raised his family, and upon retirement moved to Northport, Florida.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1969.
Tom was a truck driver, and was proud to have been a part of the “Big Dig” highway project in Boston as a member of AFL-CIO Boston Teamsters Local 25.
Besides his wife, he leaves three children, Sandra Ray and her husband Gregory of Tewksbury, Laura Oliver of Somerville, and Christine Oliver also of Tewksbury; eight beloved grandchildren; Jamie and Gregory Ray, Aaron Cosgrove, Erica and Kadie McCabe, Brandon Wilson, Michael Reznikow, and Emily Brook; two adored great grandchildren, Hope and Michael; a sister, Frances Amari of Woburn; a sister-in-law, Betty Oliver of CA; his best friend and family pet, Mia; many nieces and nephews; and was pre-deceased by a sister, Barbara Plummer and a brother, William Oliver.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 2, from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge, 777 South St. Tewksbury. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or a Veterans Organization of Donor’s Choice, will be appreciated. Arrangements were through the Tewksbury Funeral Home.
