Obituary

Gladys Boxx Evans was born in Water Valley, MS, on March 19, 1916, and died on November 14, 2005, at the age of 89.

Visitation will be held at Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 till 8:00 pm, November 16, 2005 and funeral services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, November 17, 2005 in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Conducting the service will be her grandson, Jordan White and Dr. Randy Bain with closing remarks made by son-in-law Tommy White. Serving as pallbearers are: Charles Boxx, Ray Boxx, Dr. Frank Evans, Robert Earl Evans, William C. "Bill" Finch, Jr., Roy Bennett Stevens, Russ McPherson and Kyle McPherson. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Evans was the second of six children born to Lillie Dickey Boxx and Luther Linder Boxx and was preceded in death by her parents and 3 siblings: and older brother, Clarence Vaiden Boxx; a younger brother, E. T. Boxx; and a younger sister, Mildred Boxx Finch.

She was married for 25 years to William Vassar Evans who died in 1970.

Mrs. Evans is survived by: one daughter and only child, Linda Evans White of Water Valley, MS; a sister, Opal B. Champion Gore of Water Valley, MS; a brother, Rayford L. Boxx of Coffeeville, MS; 3 grandchildren, Valery White Ward of Temecula, CA, Jordan Thomas White of Pascagoula, MS, and Carter William White of Jackson, MS; 2 great-grandchildren, Audrey Katelynn Ward and Lauren Hailey Ward both of Temecula, CA.

She taught elementary school for 40 years; 12 years in Mississippi (including 4 years at Pine valley, 7 years at Jeff Davis, and 1 year at Water Valley). Moving to Jennings, LA, in 1948, Mrs. Evans taught an additional 28 years in LA until her retirement in 1977 when she moved back to Water Valley.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in both Jennings and Water Valley, a longtime Sunday School teacher in Louisiana, and a member of the Garden Club of Water Valley. She spent her retirement years enjoying her three grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and was much loved by all of her family and friends.
