Eleanor M. Kalem
Longtime Tewksbury resident

Bedford: Eleanor M. Kalem, age 87, a resident of the Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford, passed away at home on Saturday, May 5, 2018.

Born in Lowell on October 1, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Demetrious C. Kalem and the late Iphigenia (Soteriades) Kalem.

Eleanor was raised on the former Friendship Farm in the Wamesit Village of Tewksbury.

She attended local schools and graduated from Tewksbury High School. Following high school, she went on to attend Fisher Junior College and Clark University.

She retired in 1991 after 26 years of employment by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology: Lincoln Laboratory where she worked as an Administrator.

She was a member of the Tewksbury Historical Society. Eleanor enjoyed hosting Bible Studies and missionaries in her home as well as gardening and scrapbooking. She was a long-time member of Grace Chapel in Lexington and involved in Stonecroft Ministries. She served in leadership positions in the Merrimack Valley Christian Women’s Connection.

She is survived by her cousins, George F. Kalem, Jr. of Canton and Anne S. Phillips of Melrose; her special caregivers, Gail Theriault and Florence Wadman and many dear friends. Eleanor was the sister of the late Sophia Kalem and Theodora Grand.

Family and friends are invited to her graveside service at the Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East St., Tewksbury on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to Grace Chapel, 3 Militia Drive, Lexington, MA 02421 or Stonecroft Ministries, 10561 Barkley, Suite 500, Overland Park, KS 66212.
