LACONIA - Steven Ernest Thompson, 70, of Laconia, passed away on May 8, 2018 after a brief illness.
Steve was born on May 21, 1947 to Roger and Lela Thompson, and was a graduate of McIntosh College in Dover, NH. He volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Army as an infantryman in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged.
Steve worked at Brox Industries in Dracut, Mass. for 30 years as a contract administrator and was recently honored as employee of the year for the quality of his work and dedicated service to the company.
He enjoyed Boston sports teams, summer vacations with his family in York, Maine, and trips to the Caribbean with his wife and dear friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara, a beloved daughter, Stephanie Blackburn and her husband Derek, of Portland, Maine, precious granddaughters, Carly and Mallory, and Marijke van Dijk, a much loved foreign exchange student from the Netherlands as well as Steve and Barbara’s dog, Teddy, who brought unconditional joy to their lives. Steve is also survived by his sister, June Johnson, and her husband Brad, brothers Bruce and James Thompson and Bruce’s wife Shirley, all of North Berwick, Maine.
Steve will be most remembered as a kind, caring person, a friend to all, and a man whose family-his wife, daughter, and granddaughters- always came first, and through whom he lives on.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Steve’s life on Saturday, May 19th at 12 Noon at the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford, NH with the Reverend Michael Graham officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations in Steve’s memory be made to the CRVNA Hospice House, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301 in appreciation for their wonderful care.
