Eugene F. Walsh

TEWKSBURY: Eugene F. “Gene” Walsh, age 81, a resident of Tewksbury for over 60 years, and a communicant of St. William’s Parish, passed away at home on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
He was the beloved husband of Jean K. (Callahan) Walsh with whom he would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on June 1, 2018.
Born in Medford on February 4, 1937, he was the son of the late Francis X. Walsh and the late Mary T. (McCabe) Walsh.
Gene was raised in Charlestown. He attended local schools, was graduated from Don Bosco Trade School in 1955, and went on to attend Fitchburg State College.
Following his years at Fitchburg State, he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Prior to his retirement, Gene was employed as a lithographer by the Henry N. Sawyer Company in Charlestown for 50 years.
He was an active member, past president and board member of the Tewksbury Lions Club. In addition, he was a board member of the Tewksbury Public Library, the Charlestown Bunker Hill Association, a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Post # 2070, the Society of Printers, the Book Builders of Boston, and a longtime supporter of the Recreational Adult Resource Association (R.A.R.A.) of Lowell and Tewksbury Youth Sports.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four sons, Kevin G. Walsh and his wife Theresa (McCarthy), Dennis P. Walsh, Stephen M. Walsh and his wife Michelle (DesChamps), all of Tewksbury, and Terrance J. Walsh and his wife Kerri (Mello), of Woodstock, CT; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren (with another due in July), many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Calling hours were held Wednesday, May 16, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral procession began on Thursday, May 17, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, and was followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment was at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to R.A.R.A.
