Leonard Robert Euart, Jr., 65, of Dartmouth formerly of Lexington, passed away on May 10, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Lori Anderson, his sister Michelle and her husband David Wise of Greer, South Carolina. He is also survived by his nephews and niece: Jeremy and his wife Sarah Wise, Kenny Wise, Allison and her husband Andrew McCleskey, Corey Anderson, Justin Anderson, Brandon Anderson, and Brady Anderson.
Leonard was a beloved teacher to many children in Dartmouth, Lexington, New Bedford, and Plymouth, MA. He graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University with a degree in Marine Biology and Elementary Education, and received his Masters degree from Bridgewater State College. He began his career in the New Bedford public schools teaching sign language to the deaf, and retired from the Plymouth public schools as an Instructional Technology Specialist for students and teachers in the elementary schools in 2009. Mr. Euart spent most of his career teaching grades 3, 4, and 5 in Dartmouth, and received a Teacher of the Year award in 1997. He was also swimming instructor for many years, teaching at the Lexington Center Pool, Round Hill Beach, Apponagansett Beach, and the Faunce Corner Club. Mr. Euart was an instructor at the Lloyd Center for the Environment for over 15 years, teaching their summer marine science program. His interests were wide-ranging and included teaching/performing banjo in various bluegrass groups, making steel drums and performing in a steel drum band. He loved learning languages, and one of his great joys was traveling to France and spending time speaking French, playing boule, and getting to know the people. He also loved spending time at the beach in Biddeford, Maine, and volunteered as a docent for the Wood Island Lighthouse. Mr. Euart will be remembered as a kind, compassionate man who loved children. He will be sorely missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth. Private burial for family members will be on Monday, May 21 in Lexington.
