Christopher A. Gookin, age 50, of Taunton, formerly of Norton and Mansfield passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Pamela A. (Hansen) Gookin, to whom he was wed for twenty-three years.
Born in Fort Polk, Louisiana on April 17, 1968, he was a loving son of Denise Gookin Cassidy and her husband Paul Cassidy of Attleboro.
Chris grew up and was educated in Mansfield and Foxboro. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Chris had been employed for the past six years as a supervisor and site manager at GSI, Inc. in Taunton. He had made his home in Taunton for the past five years.
Chris will always be remembered as a softhearted man with a remarkable sense of humor and a special place in his heart for animals. His family was the essence and priority of his life, as was helping others in need. He enjoyed fishing, playing and watching baseball, and was an avid fan of the New York Giants and NASCAR.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his devoted children Ashley N. Gookin of Attleboro, Christopher J. Gookin of Taunton and Rachel M. Gookin of Taunton. He was the dear brother of Stephen V. Gookin and his longtime companion Marcy Eastman of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Kaiden A. Medeira and godfather of Dylan J. Gookin. He was the adoring grandson of Celestine M. “Sally” Gookin of Norton and the late John A. Gookin. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17th at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Military honors will be performed at the conclusion of services. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 16th from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
