Daniel C Thompson passed away on May 4, 2018 at the age of eighty one.
He was born in Estelline, South Dakota March 2, 1937 to Murel and
Adelaide Leonard Thompson.
He moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota in 1949 where he graduated from
Hot Springs High School in 1955. During high school he worked at the Hot
Springs Star, the weekly newspaper.
Dan enlisted in the Navy in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961.
While in the Navy, he specialized in journalism. After being discharged he
worked in the printing business and later began a life long career as a
plumber/pipe fitter. He became a member of the Pipe Fitters Union Local 761
in 1974 and transferred to Local 250 in 1976. Dan retired in 1993 and came
out of retirement in 1997. At that time Dan started his own business “Dan
Thompson Plumbing”. He retired for good in 2004.
Dan loved old cars and rebuilt a model A Ford and was working on a 1940
Ford Truck at the time of his death. Dan also loved to write.
Dan is survived by his wife Norma of thirty six years, his son Micheal,
daughters, Lisa Pita, Karen Loomis, Sheri Shepherd, and sisters Shari Schuett
and Carmen Edwards. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Mason
Derrickson and daughter Debra Parkin Becker.
