James F. Slattery, 72

James F. Slattery, age 72, passed away Sunday, May 6th, 2018 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. He was the son of the late Francis and Mildred (Piepszak)) Slattery

Jay was born in Attleboro, MA on September 7, 1945. He grew up in Mansfield and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. He married his wife Martha (Pignato) Slattery on June 29th, 1969. He served as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation supporting agriculture across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

He loved fishing and boating on Cape Cod, having spent time with his Dad on the canal and Buzzards Bay and then passing that love of the Atlantic along to his wife, children and grandchildren. He spent the last few years of retirement working on the restoration of his 42’ Ford Tudor Super Deluxe.

Beloved husband of Martha (Pignato) Slattery. Devoted father of Joanna Jarvis and her husband Todd of Foxboro, Deborah Cunniff and her husband, the late Christopher Cunniff of Foxboro, James P. Slattery and his wife Tricia of Foxboro, Diana Griffin and her husband Matthew of Foxboro, and Francis Slattery and his wife Leah of Braintree.

Adored Grandpa to Lindsey and Christopher Cunniff; Bryce, Annmarie and Adam Jarvis; Andrea and Jillian Slattery; and Henry and Dexter Griffin.

He was the brother of Patricia (Slattery) Reynolds and her husband William of Wareham, and William Slattery and his wife Beverly of Norfolk. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a funeral Mass on Saturday, May 12th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 58 Carpenter Street, Foxboro, MA. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 105 Mechanic Street, Foxboro.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, May 11th from 4pm – 8pm at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, Jay’s family has requested donations in his memory to be made to the Friends of Foxboro Recreation, 40 South Street, Foxboro, MA 02035.
