Obituary

Mary Louise (Melia) Beaton, age 92, of Winchester, died peacefully at her home on May 3, 2018. Mary grew up in Brighton, Massachusetts, graduated from St. Columbkille’s High School in 1943, and went on to attend Hickox Secretarial School in Boston, MA. Mary pursued her passion for public service, books, and art as a Candy Striper during WWII, through her work at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, The Blauvelt Library, Blauvelt NY, where she served on the Board of Trustees and established the Fine Arts Committee, St. Dominic’s Orphanage in Blauvelt, NY, Starkmann Book Services in Winchester, MA, and the American Red Cross in Winchester, MA. Mary’s real passion was being a devoted wife to her husband Jack, the love of her life, and a loving mother to her four children. She was the beloved wife of Jack Beaton, to whom she was married for sixty-four years, and daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (McCauley) Melia. Loving mother of Brian Beaton (Mary) of Durham NH, Kevin Beaton of Boise, ID, Peter Beaton (Jocalyn) of York, ME, and Kathleen Beaton (Andrew) of Annapolis, Maryland. Cherished sister of Patricia Cellucci and her late husband, Anthony, of Brighton; and the late Barbara Banks and her late husband, Paul Banks; and the late Thomas Melia, Kevin Melia, and Edward Melia. Sister-in-law to Margaret Melia of Centerport, NY and Dr. Elaine Silver Melia of Sacramento, CA. Loving grandmother to Iliah, John, Hana, Kai, Graham, Hugh, Neill, and Jack. Gentle great-grandmother to Kaya and Harper. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, and friends. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington Street, Winchester, MA, on Monday, May 7th from 5-8 PM, and again on Tuesday, May 8th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington Street, Winchester, MA at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice Care, www.CareDimensions.org.
