James A. Amirto

BILLERICA: James A. Amirto, age 52, a resident of Billerica for over 11 years, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Malden on June 22, 1965, he was the son of the late Nicholas F. Amirto and the late Frances P. (McPartlan) Amirto.
Jim was raised in Tewksbury, attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica, where he studied culinary arts.
Prior to his illness, he worked as a landscape contractor for East Coast Irrigation and Land Pro.
Jim was always lending a helping hand to his neighbors, especially the elderly. Jim would help them maintain their yard or plow their driveways.
Jim loved to cook, especially for his family and friends.
He was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Post 2070, and an associate member of the former Tewksbury V.F.W. Post # 8164. Jim volunteered his culinary talents on many occasions at the V.F.W. in honor and recognition of his father’s military service during the Korean War.
He is survived by one brother, Michael J. Amirto, of Ashburnham; his fiancé, Norma M. Nelson, of Billerica; his aunt, Ann Bowes, of Groton; his aunt and uncle, Ann and Warren DeMasi, of Wakefield; also many cousins including Meredith Bowes of Groton.
Calling hours are Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by a prayer service to be held at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center at Lahey Clinic, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.
