Richard S. Dias, 70, of Westport passed away, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at home. He was the husband of Anne I. (Fontaine) Dias.
He was born in Fall River, son of the late Manuel and Charlotte (Souza) Dias. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served his country in the United States Navy and continued service with the United States Coast Guard. He later returned to the Navy so to speak as a civilian budget analyst, retiring from that Newport Naval Base position several years ago.
Including his wife, survivors include 2 sons: Richard S. Dias Jr. and his companion Kerrie Machado of Westport and Keith S. Dias and his husband Jessie of Westport; a daughter: Carrie A. Fontaine and her companion Robert K. Couture of Westport; 2 brothers: Manuel “Sonny” Dias and his wife Myra of FL and Gerald Dias and his wife Cecelia of FL; 3 sisters: Nora Gaspar of Cape Cod, Cora Arnold of Somerset and Delores “Rose” Macedo of Somerset; 4 grandchildren: Dustin Dias, Tabitha Dias, Hunter Fontaine and Desiree Spofford; 4 great grandchildren: Skyla, Aubrey, Jasmine and Jayden; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Antone Dias (survived by wife Joan of Dartmouth).
A family man first and foremost, he took great pride in his time and service to the United States Military. A member of the GS Club of America and owner of a 1972 Buick GS Stage 1, he had a life-long love for classic cars of the 1950’s – 1970’s. He loved animals, especially his girl, Holly, and his grandboy, Yoda. And he was an avid and dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 – 8 PM.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 10 AM and Interment with Military Honors at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport (to which the family would like to extend a special thanks to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 207, Westport).
