Flora A. Gay
Retired Director of Lowell Girls’ Club
Flora A. Gay, age 91, recently of Chelmsford, formerly of Lowell and Tewksbury, passed away April 23, 2018.
Flora was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Beatrice E. (Dinsmore) Gay.
She is survived by her devoted brother Philip T. Gay and his wife Wanda of Greenwich, NY; by her five loving nieces and nephews; and by her dear friend Karen Spicer-Mayo.
Flora was predeceased by her beloved brother Thornton C. Gay and his wife Ellie.
Flora was employed over the years in many community service organizations. She was a program director and executive director at Girls’ Clubs in Lowell, Concord, NH, and Schenectady, NY; and she worked as well for Community Teamwork, Inc and Christ Church United in Lowell. Flora also was the primary care-giver for both of her parents in their later years. After retirement, Flora worked as a coordinator and assistant at the United Teen Equality Center (UTEC) in Lowell, where the people and the mission were dear to her heart. Flora was a longtime member of Christ Church United in Lowell. Flora’s family would like to thank the caregivers at Sunny Acres Nursing, Circle Health, and Wingate for their support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Saturday, May 12 at 12:00 pm at Christ Church United, at the corner of Bartlett and E. Merrimack Sts., Lowell. Private burial will be at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Flora’s memory may be made to the United Teen Equality Center, 35 Warren St., Lowell, MA 01852.
