Obituary

George D. McGrath, age 93 of W. Bridgewater, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018. He was the devoted husband of 60 years of Lucille E. (Marchione) McGrath. Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Beatrice (McCarthy) McGrath.

George attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School and was a 1942 graduate of Brockton High School. He received an accounting degree from Bryant & Stratton College in Boston. He served in the US Navy as a First Class Petty Officer during World War II. He was employed by the US Postal Service for 26 years. George was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed his second home in Largo, FL but spending time with his family brought him the most joy.

George is survived by his wife Lucille, his daughter Nancy McGrath and her husband Mario Silva of Brockton and his son Robert McGrath and his partner Sue McLaughlin of Taunton. He also leaves his grandchildren, Kyle McGrath and his wife Rebecca, Tenee McGrath, Matteo and Zane Silva and Tyler Rountry-McGrath, and was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Priscilla McGrath as well as many nieces and nephews. George was pre-deceased by his grandson Lucas McGrath-Silva and his brother Richard R. McGrath.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton on Sunday, May 6, 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Monday at 9am for a 10am funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, W. Bridgewater. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
