Madeleine (Martineau) Tavares, 68, of N. Dartmouth passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital following a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Joseph R. Tavares with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.
Raised in New Bedford, she was one of three children born to the late Henry and Aldea (Courtemanche) Martineau and had resided in Dartmouth since 1984. A graduate of St. Anthony's High School and Bridgewater College, she followed up with study at Middlebury College, eventually getting her Master's Degree. Madeleine worked for 33 years in the Fairhaven School System, at both Hastings Middle and Fairhaven High Schools. Subsequently, she worked for 7 years at BayCoast Bank. After retiring, she enjoyed gardening, glass collecting, cooking and spending time with her grandson..
Survivors along with her husband include her son: Michael Tavares of Swansea; her daughter: Jacqueline Tellier and her husband Joe of Cumberland, RI; 2 sisters: Jeanne Martineau of Fall River and Jeannette Pasquale and her husband Peter of Groveland, MA; and her grandson: Benjamin Tavares.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Potter Funeral Home from 1-3 P.M.
Interment will be private.
