Robert A. Fontaine, 68, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Tufts Medical Center from complications after heart surgery. A proud graduate of Villanova University, Bob was an avid reader, trivia master, skilled sailor and had a passion for life on the waterfront. He also had the most unforgettable, contagious laugh.
Above all, Bob was the devoted and deeply loved father of Margot Y. Fontaine and Brigitte Fontaine, both of New Bedford and the much admired Pépère of his only grandson, Michael J. Charros, Jr. He was also the brother of Marguerite Fontaine and Aimee (Fontaine) Lee; a loving uncle and cousin; and the son of the late Capt. Arthur and Marie (Dion) Fontaine.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 5th at 9 a.m. at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford.
