Obituary

Hanson – Gordon B. “Gordie” Coyle, Jr. 82, died Friday April 27 after a long period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of fifty-eight years to Lila (Gardner) Coyle.

Born in Weymouth he was the son of the late Gordon B. and Bernice (Boudreau) Coyle and a graduate of Weymouth High, Class of 1954.

Prior to his retirement Gordon had been a proud member for over forty years of the Carpenters’ Union Local #424 and had taught the trade to countless apprentices for the Union. He also had been a self-employed General Contractor in the South Shore area.

He was a resident of Abington for twenty years before his move to Hanson in 1983. As a resident of Hanson he had served several years on the Planning Board for the town.

He loved riding his motorcycles “off road” and had been one of the founding members of the Pilgrim Sand Trail Riders, where he had served and president and treasurer and had taught riding as well. He was a member of the New England Trail Riders Association.

In addition to his wife Lila he is survived by his loving sons Kenneth Coyle of Abington, Mark Coyle and his wife Jeanne of Charleston, ME and Craig Coyle of Abington and his granddaughter Kendra Hobart and her husband Adam of Whitman. He is also survived by his brother, the retired Monsignor Rev. Arthur Coyle of Hyannis.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday May 2 at 7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 4:00-7:00 PM. A committal service will be held Thursday May 3 at 11:00 AM in the Northville Cemetery, Oak Street, East Bridgewater.
