Obituary

Basmajian, Victoria (Tashjian) “Vicki” 99, of Belmont, formerly of Everett and Chelsea, died peacefully at her home on April 27, 2018. Beloved daughter of Manoog and Mena (Kesalian) Tashjian and the devoted sister of the late Rose Tashjian and Robert Tashjian. Vicki was the wife of the late Nathan Basmajian. She is survived by her sons, Donald Basmajian (wife Sieglinde Basmajian) of Santa Rosa, CA, and Alan Basmajian (fiancée Christine Lundblad of Lincoln, MA. Vicki was the cherished grandmother of Leila Allen and her husband Tim of Forestville, CA; Sara Basmajian of Belmont, MA, Michael Basmajian of Somerville, MA, and Florian Basmajian, Jazmin Basmajian, and Angelina Rubio of Santa Rosa, CA. She was adored by her great grandchildren Jamie and Lexi Allen of Forestville, CA, and Naiya Basmajian of Belmont, MA. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Victoria (Vicki Tashjian) was born in Chelsea in 1918 and moved to Everett several years later. She graduated from Burdett College where she studied to become a bookkeeper. After graduation, she went to work at Esso (Exxon). In 1945, Vicki married Nathan Basmajian, also from Chelsea. Shortly later, they moved to Washington DC, where Nat assembled aircraft for the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II. In Washington, Vicki gave birth to Donald, their first son. They moved back to Everett to live close to their parents where their second son, Alan, was born three years later.

Vicki returned to the workforce in the 1960’s, first opening an arts and crafts store in Winchester, MA. After losing weight with Diet Workshop, Vicki became a Diet Workshop instructor, advising clients on weight loss. Vicki ended her professional career as a counselor for SecureHorizons (Tufts), helping seniors with health plans.

Visiting hours will be in the Aram Bedrosian Funeral Home, 558 Mount Auburn Street, Watertown, MA, on Tuesday, May 1 from 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 145 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA, on Wednesday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment to follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Holy Trinity Armenian Church or Caregroup Parmenter Home Care and Hospice, 1 Arsenal Market Place, Watertown, MA 02472.
