Thomas C. "Tom" Jackson Sr., a 15 year resident of Somerville and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Dedham Health Care Nursing Home in Dedham. He was 80 years of age.
Tom was born in Winthrop on January 20, 1938, a son of the late Chester Jackson and Dorothy (Hoffman) Jackson-Doherty. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School System. Tom worked as a custodian for the City of Boston at the Kent School in Charlestown and Charlestown High School and retired following 30 years of dedicated service. He received the Man of The Year Award from ABCD(Action for Boston Community Development). He was a former Chairman for the Charlestown Muscular Dystrophy Association, and was very involved with Special Townies. Tom's passion in life was bringing joy to the the people of Charlestown by playing Santa Clause, a clown, and the Easter Bunny for various charities throughout the town. He was very active with youth sports in Charlestown. He was a founding member and Executive Director of Charlestown Pop Warner. Tom was also very involved with the Charlestown Chargers Football Team later known as the Townies Football Team. He was also active in Charlestown girls softball and girls ball hockey leagues. Tom was a devoted friend of "Bill W."
Tom is the devoted father of Sherry Spacco and her husband Joseph of Stoughton, Thomas C. Jackson Jr. and his wife Kim of Charlestown, and Brandon Jackson and his wife Marissa of Reading. He is the loving Papa to Joseph Spacco, Salvatore Spacco and Catherine Jackson. He is the beloved brother of the late Carrie Aromin. He is the husband of Paula (Newmark) Jackson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Tom's Funeral Service on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10 A.M. in the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His visiting hours will be on Thursday April 26, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
