Obituary

William Wendler Nash, 95, a resident of Timberline Road, Warwick, died Sunday, April 22, 2018 in the Village at Waterman Lake. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Stannard) Nash. They had been married for 63 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of John Crandon and Kathryn (Wendler) Nash. He was a graduate of Classical High School and Brown University, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. He had been a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. William was an Army veteran of World War II, having served from 1942 to 1946 in the Infantry and the Corps of Engineering in both the European and Pacific Theaters.

His career in business management and consulting spanned 65 years. He retired as vice president-manufacturing and assistant general manager of United Wire and Supply Company of Cranston. He subsequently served on several corporate boards, in addition to acting as a business consultant affiliated with the Small Business Development Center at Bryant and Johnson and Wales Universities.

He had previously been president of Eljay Manufacturing Company of New Hampshire, general manager of Brass Goods Manufacturing Company in Connecticut and a partner in the international management consulting firm of Bigelow, Kent, Willard and Company of Boston. He was also personnel manager for Bostitch, Inc, and planning manager and manager-control and finance for Texas Instruments in Attleboro. Additionally, he was a division manager with the United Shoe Machinery Company in Lawrence, Massachusetts and for fifteen years held various management positions with the American Optical Company in Southbridge, Massachusetts.

He traveled extensively and had visited more than sixty countries around the world as well as every state in America more than once. He was an enthusiastic camper, hiker, swimmer and golfer. He was a former member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society for the Advancement of Management. He was an artist member of the Providence Art Club, as well as a member of the Netopian Club of Providence, the Wickford Art Association, the Society of Mayflower Descendants and the Pilgrim John Howland Society. He was a parishioner of St. Luke’s Church in East Greenwich where he served for a time as treasurer and vestryman. He had made his home on Timberline Road in Warwick for thirty-seven years.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Caroline Nash of Southbridge, Massachusetts and Beverly Stannard Moses and her husband, Fred of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and his son, James Walker Moore Nash and his wife, Sabra of Lincoln, as well as his three beloved grandchildren, Roy Niemann, Amy Ramsberger and her husband, Brett, and Megan Sibum and her husband, Max, his great-granddaughter, Charlotte, and his sister, Ruth Tyler of Bethesda, Maryland. He is predeceased by his sister, Caroline Hyatt.

A private funeral service for family and friends will be held in the Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence. Burial with military honors will follow. Visitation respectfully omitted.
