Alma (Head) Griffin, age 91, of Chicopee, MA passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family and God on April 13, 2018. She was born in Glenwood, Newfoundland Sept 6, 1926 to Dorman and Rachel Head. Alma moved to Greenland and worked as telephone operator on Thule Air Force Base where she met her husband Laurence L. Griffin, whom she was married to for 39 years until his passing in 1989. After traveling the US as an active duty military family they settled in Chicopee with their three children in the late 60’s. Alma is survived by her selfless son Donald E. Griffin who took care of her until the end and her grandchildren Sara A. Polverini and her husband Kevin and Rachel M. Fagullar and her husband Corey, great Grandchildren Griffin and Giulia Polverini and Abbe Fagullar all of Chicopee, Emily Fagullar and her fiancé Nolan King of Palmer, MA, her sisters and a brother, Isabelle Johnson of Greenville, SC, Eva John, Emily Coats, and Robert Head all of Glenwood, Newfoundland and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the southern US. She was also a very special friend and confidant to Nola Cohen whom she cherished greatly and Joyce Dearman whom always kept in touch and many other dear friends. She is predeceased by her aforementioned husband Larry, son Robert L. Griffin (1993) and her daughter Charmaine R. Griffin (1999) and eight brothers and sisters. Alma was a devoted and loving mother, “Nanny” and so excited when becoming a “Great Nanny”, she was proud of her family and would spend hours cooking and preparing for company when she wasn’t off dancing the nights away in local social clubs in her earlier years. She was feisty and pleasant and had a great sense of humor and she will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. A Funeral Service will be held on Wed, Apr 18, 2018 10:00 a.m. at the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield Street, Chicopee with a Prayer Service to take place at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Tues, Apr 17, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
