George E. Riley, age 88, passed away on Dec. 22, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 8, 1929 in Chicopee and has been a lifelong resident. George was the son of the late James and Yvonne (Marchand) Riley. He was a communicant of St Patrick's Church. George served in the US Army and was stationed at The US Military Academy after returning home from the Korean War. He later worked for Smith & Wesson before retiring in 1990. He leaves 2 sons, James Michael Riley of Virginia and Shawn Riley of Chicopee, as well as 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The family would especially like to acknowledge George’s granddaughter Kayla Babiec and great-grandson Riley Babiec for the countless hours of care and companionship, and above all the joy they brought to his life in his last months. George is predeceased by his wife Marie (McKnight) Riley who passed away in 1987, and his daughter Cindy Gendron who passed away in 2012. George was the last surviving sibling in his family and is predeceased by his sister Catherine Missildine of Chicopee, and his 3 brothers - Thomas Riley of Florida, Francis Riley of Ludlow, and Bernard Riley of Monson. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St Patrick's Church, Broadway St, Chicopee followed by private family burial in St Patrick's Cemetery.
