PORTER- Erland L. Gilpatrick, age 92, passed away at his home on April 10, 2018.
He was born in Hiram, a son of the late Cecil and Lottie (Pendexter) Gilpatrick and attended
local schools.
Erland proudly served in the US Army during WWII. While serving as an infantryman, he saw
action at D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded twice.
He worked for Gil’s Texaco Station in Kezar Falls and retired as a truck driver from G.W. Jewett
in East Baldwin.
Erland will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, especially gardening, hunting,
fishing, and four-wheeling. He also enjoyed woodworking and fixing almost anything for
anyone. He built his model A after he retired.
He was a member of Greenleaf Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife- Maude “Sue” Gilpatrick. They shared 70 years of
marriage; son- Rodney Gilpatrick; and brother- Hilton Gilpatrick.
Erland is survived by his son- Richard Gilpatrick and his wife Cheryl of South Hiram; daughter in
law- Lorie Pike-Gilpatrick of Cornish; siblings- Delbert Gilpatrick and his wife Grace of South
Hiram and Gwendolyn Gilpatrick of South Hiram; grandchildren- Blake and his wife Amanda,
Blaine and her husband James, Crystal and her husband Tom, Rick and his wife Linda, Michael
and his wife Heidi, and Andrea and her husband Josh; great grandchildren- Keith, Kaylee,
Ericca, Jayden, Hunter, Orren, Ayden, Bryce, Daniel, Reece and Maci; and great great
grandson- Colton.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday May 20th from 12-2 PM, followed by a 2 PM funeral
service at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St. Cornish. The service will
conclude with Masonic Honors. Burial will be at the Kezar Falls Burial Ground with US Army
Honors.
