Julia A. (Griffith) Vigeant, 77, of New Bedford passed away Monday April 9, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Raymond A. Vigeant; they would have celebrated 55 years of marriage later this month.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Patrick W. and Anne (Martin) Griffith, she resided in Arlington for many years before returning to New Bedford in 2007.
Julia was formerly employed as a switchboard operator at St. Luke's Hospital, Lowell General Hospital, and Symmes Hospital in Arlington. She later worked for Arthur D. Little, Inc. in Cambridge until her retirement.
Her life was centered around her family, caring for their needs, preparing Sunday family dinners, and hosting holiday events. She enjoyed making ceramics, traveling to Las Vegas, and playing Bingo.
Her family would like to extend special thanks to St. Anne's Hospital Regional Cancer Center in Dartmouth for their care and support given to Julia during her illness.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; six children, Michele Tocci and her husband Paul of Mont Vernon, NH, Michael Vigeant of New Bedford, Mark Vigeant and his wife Michelle of Wilmington, Raymond Vigeant, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Viera, FL, Matthew Vigeant of Worcester, and John Vigeant and his wife Clara of Lynnfield; her siblings, William Griffith of South Yarmouth, Elizabeth Brennan and her husband Francis of Ledyard, CT, Anne Gingras of Los Angeles, CA, and Mary Louise McCarthy and her husband James of Mattapoisett; eleven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Patricia Gracia, Dagny Tripp, Kathleen Quatieri, Joan Flood, and Edward Griffith.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday April 13, 2018 at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
