Obituary

Yolande M. (Cabana) Fortier, 93, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly, at her home on Monday, April 9, 2018. She was the wife of the late George Fortier with whom she had shared 41 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late J. Felix and Aldea (Couturier) Cabana. Yolande moved to the North Shore in 1946. She first lived in Lynn and later moved to Salem. She was a loving wife, mother and memere and devoted her life to creating a welcoming home for her family. She loved cooking and baking treats for her family and friends. Yolande also enjoyed regular trips to Quebec to spend time with her Canadian family. Following the death of her husband, she enjoyed vacationing in Florida with her friends. Yolande’s kind and good nature will be missed by many.
She is survived by her daughters, Renee A. Casey of Bevely, Marie M. Pothier and husband Thomas S. Pothier, Jr., of Salem, her son, Raymond P. Fortier of Santa Cruz, CA, five granddchildren, Michelle & Jason Casey, Melissa, Brandon and Amanda Pothier and a great-grandson, Benjamin Casey-Sadowski. She also leaves two brothers, Gilles & Jean-Guy Cabana and two sisters, Hugette Pilette and Georgette Bilodeau all of Quebec, Canada, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, James J. Fortier and brother, Real Cabana.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [ Route 114 / 1-A ] Salem on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
