Obituary

Betty W. Barrett, 87, of Mystic CT, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018. Born December 5, 1930 in Preston CT, she lived in Mystic for most of her life. She is survived by her two children, Robert and Betty, and was predeceased by her husband Rob, and brother Edward.

Betty greatly enjoyed playing drums, and was a member of various bands throughout the course of her life, including the Fitch High School marching band, where her drum-playing career began. A favorite pastime of Betty's was listening to country music. She and her husband participated in a square dancing group in their younger days. During Betty's later years she offered her drum-playing talent to nursing homes
and other venues that catered to the elderly.

After retiring her drums, her musical interest continued as she spent several years learning to play the mandolin. In one phase of Betty's life, she worked as a part-time crossing guard. It was during this time that she encountered an all-black stray cat, who was quickly adopted and given the name Wilma. Betty relished having Wilma in the home, and this was the last of several pet cats that received her loving attention.

Betty was willing to try new things, such as painting or motorcycle riding, and was a much-appreciated friend to those around her.

Her family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, April 12, from 6:30 to 7:00pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
