Robert DeCosta 84, of Franklin, died peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his family, Sunday April 8, 2018, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (McBride) DeCosta, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born November 14, 1933 in Somerset, Massachusetts, a son of the late Angelo and Alice (Silvia) DeCosta, he was a resident of Franklin for over 55 years.
He was raised and educated in Somerset, and was a graduate of Fisher Jr. College. For over 40 years Robert worked for the Honeywell Corporation as an electronic engineer.
A proud American, he joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He attained the rank of A/2C and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in October 1956.
Robert was devoted to his family and enjoyed golfing & cooking. He was a former Cub Scout leader and Babe Ruth coach. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Church, Franklin.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael J. “Mike” DeCosta and his wife Barbara of Franklin, Susan A. Maruco of Plainville, Jeffrey R. DeCosta of Franklin and Kathleen Anzinvino and her husband Russell of Bellingham, a sister, Shirley Manchester of Westport, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Carleen F. Gomes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Thursday April 12th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Sq. Franklin at 10AM.
Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM.
