Rev. Jack A. Downs, 92, died April 6, 2018, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born, May 8, 1925, in Columbus, IN the son of Ora S. and Geraldine L. (Cook) Downs. He graduated in 1943 from Broad Ripple High School and then Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia with a bachelor's degree in ministry.
He served in the United States Navy 12 years during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a minister at Cornerstone Mission for 4 years, worked for the Community Justice Center for 10 years and the Christian Center for 15 years. He worked with people in prison and was concerned for the lost. He enjoyed doing Christian Counseling.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Jay (Debbie) Dishman of Greenfield, Roger (Susie) Dishman of Chesterfield, Pam (John) Isom of Chesterfield, Dan (Betty) Dishman of Anderson; Randy Dishman of Anderson, Brad (Demita) Calhoun of Anderson; brother, Paul Downs of North Carolina, sister-in-law, Jackie Downs of Indianapolis, several step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews..
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis Downs, sister, Mary Jane and a brother, Ora Downs, Jr.
Private burial will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery.
