Obituary


Francis David “Dave” Stephansky, age 86, of Marshfield, previously of Whitman, passed away at home on April 7, 2018, of complications from Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

Dave was born in Quincy to the late Leo Stephansky and Eileen (Daley) Stephansky.

A 1949 graduate of North Quincy High School, Dave served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 and then went on to attend Bridgewater State College, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1960, and Boston University for his Master’s Degree in 1966.

Dave was a talented history teacher at Norwell High School for 31 years, with many years as department head. He also taught computer skills and drivers' education. For many years he was active in the Plymouth County Education Association, often serving in various leadership roles.

After retirement he enjoyed working at the Whitman Public Library. He also enjoyed traveling near and far, playing poker with his buddies, gardening, reading, quilling, rock painting, attending plays, musicals, movies, concerts, and researching his German and Irish ancestry.

He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara (Campbell) and his siblings Leo, Richard and Barbara. He is survived by his beloved wife of 5 years, Elaine Stephansky, his children Ellen Brown and her husband David of Wareham, Michael Stephansky and his wife Joy of Virginia Beach, VA, Eric Stephansky and his wife Teresa of Washington, NH, Mark Stephansky and his wife Carol of Whitman, Christopher Stephansky of Largo, FL and Lisa Blakeman and her husband Jim of Plymouth, his stepchildren Ken Bryant and his wife Lisa of Plympton, Rebecca Bryant of Oakland, CA, Herb Bryant of Marshfield and Meredith Harrison of Maine, his grandchildren and step grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog Lady.

Visiting hours at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, Friday, April 13, 2018, 4-6 pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360 or to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Association.
