SPENCER: Hazel M. (Rutherford) Gaucher, 89 of 15 Smithville Rd., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 5, surrounded by family and friends. She fought a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She will be reunited with her loving husband and soul mate of 59 years, Emile R. "Slug" Gaucher who died in 2012. She leaves her son John Gaucher and his partner Denise Messier and her daughter Barbara Gaucher (who was her caregiver for 6 years) and her partner Donna Gamache all of Spencer, her grandchildren Jeremy Gaucher of New Orleans and Jason Dumas of E.Brookfield, her sister Janet Evans of Spencer, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Helen Barribeault and brother Earl Rutherford.
Hazel was an assistant manager at the Holy Cross College bookstore for 25 years, and a cashier at the Big Y Supermarket in Spencer for 10 years, retiring in 2006.
Born in Spencer, she was the daughter of Stuart and Alexia (Peddie) Rutherford.
She will always be remembered for her love of family. Including Gaucher family gatherings in their home. Hazel and Slug loved traveling, vacations at Misquamicut Beach. She was a member of the Bay Path Women's Golf League for 15 years with her friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her two caregivers, Paula Cormier and Tammy Eccelston and the entire staff of Summit Charlton, where she attended the Day Program. Including the van drivers of Quality Chair Van. Her nephew Gary Barribeault who also lived and cared for her. Donna for always being at Barb's side. THANK YOU!
There will be a Celebration of her Life at Charlie's Diner, Meadow Rd., in Spencer commencing at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 21st. with a reception to follow until 1:30 pm.
