Jeanne M. (Collette) Gilmore, age 96, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died Thursday, April 5, 2018 at West Acres Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William P. Gilmore.
Jeanne was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Arthur J. and Exzina (Duclos) Collette. She was a graduate of Brockton High School class of 1939 after which she attended classes at Brockton Evening School in 1948. Jeanne’s career began at the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance where she worked as a secretary and in later years she worked at several local pharmacies, including Hassan’s Pharmacy on Main Street. Jeanne was devout in her Catholic faith having been a parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church before its closing where she transitioned to Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed reading in her spare time. Jeanne was a good cook and a great baker of pies, cookies and special desserts. Although she loved to hear about the adventures of others, she was happiest at home, caring for her family. Jeanne will be remembered for her independence, her selflessness and her delightful sense of humor.
Jeanne is survived by her children Ellen Gilmore of Brookline, William P. Gilmore, Jr., of Brockton, Maureen Harrill and her husband Janson Jay of Roanoke, VA, and Jeanne Hamann and her husband Douglas McLaughlin of Philadelphia, PA; her granddaughters Audrey Guretse, Catherine Andrews, Michaela Volkmar, and Elizabeth Hamann; and 9 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Norbert Collette.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday, April 12, 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 9am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
