WEBSTER – Paul J. “Lefty” Lonergan, 79, formerly of Thompson, CT, died Friday, March 30, 2018 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, with his family at his side. His wife of 10 years, Pauline T. (Wilkesman) Lonergan, died in 1985.
He leaves 2 sisters, Mary H. Lonergan and Ann N. Stochaj, both of Dudley; a brother, Gary & his wife Carole Lonergan of Alexandria, VA; a brother-in-law, Lucien Olmstead; a step-son, Edward Kasierski; his godson, James J. Stochaj; his lifelong friend, Jerry Canty; his roommate at Webster Manor, Herbie Sward; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brothers L. James Lonergan and Rev. Richard V. Lonergan and by his sisters Joyce S. Brezniak, Lee Ellen Olmstead, and V. June Butcher.
He was born in Webster, a son of Leo V. and Helen E. (Smykowski) Lonergan. He was a graduate of Bartlett High School, class of 1957. He played varsity baseball and basketball and was an excellent athlete.
Mr. Lonergan worked as a supervisor at Cranston Print Works in Webster, retiring in 1998. He was an avid sports fan.
The family would like to thank Dr. V. Menon of Saint Vincent Hospital for outstanding care of Paul. The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff of Webster Manor especially floor 1.
The funeral will be held Thursday, April 19, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery. A calling period will take place in the funeral home from 9:00 to 10:30 AM before the Mass. Please omit flowers.
