Evans, GA – Martin Comella, 75, loving husband of 50 years to Edmee Comella, entered into rest on Monday, April 2, 2018.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. Chapel with Pastor John Craun officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dr. Comella was a proud retired United States Army Colonel and a licensed dentist. He was born June 11, 1942 in Abilene, TX. His parents were Martin and Evelyn Comella. Dr. Comella’s hobbies were golfing, collecting stamps and coins, swimming, traveling to the beach, going on cruises, and gardening.
Dr. Comella attended the University of Santa Barbara and graduated from the University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry in 1971 where he received a DMD and an MS in Prosthodontics. Dr. Comella served honorably in the United Stated Army for 21 years. Before retiring from the US Army in 1991, he was the Director of the US Army Area Dental Lab at Walter Reed and Fort Gordon. After retiring from the US Army, Dr. Comella lovingly cared for his patients at his dental practice, Augusta Smiling Dental Center, until his retirement in 2012. He was an Associate Clinical Professor of Prosthodontics at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Comella also served as the official dentist for the Augusta Lynx hockey team.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four children; Michelle Denney (Steven) of Grovetown, GA, Marty Comella (Rikki) of Cumming, GA, James Comella (Beth) of Martinez, GA, Jennifer Curls (Aaron) of N. Fort Myers, FL, brother; Joe Comella (Jane) of Fallbrook, CA, 9 grandchildren; Counts Comella (Brooke), Matthew Comella, Derek Comella, Sarah Comella, Preston Comella, Alex Comella, Tori Comella, Jenna Curls, Caleb Curls, and great grandson, Mason Comella.
