Evelyn M. Silvia (nee Cardoza), 93, of Fall River died on March 31, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Arthur Silvia. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Antonia and Henry Cardoza. Evelyn was predeceased by her brother, Henry, of Madison, CT. Her sister Irene lives in Haddonfield, NJ.
Mrs. Silvia attended St. Michael School and graduated in 1941 from the Academy of the Sacred Hearts.
She lived in Fall River her whole life and was an active member of Our Lady of the Angels Parish as a member of the Sodality. She received the Marian Medal for her exemplary faith life and dedicated service. She and her husband later attended St. Stanislaus Church where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She and her husband also served as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at Ste. Anne’s Hospital for many years.
Evelyn attended a small business school in Hartford, CT after graduating from high school. She worked for Braz Insurance then helped to open the first AAA office in Fall River where she enjoyed assisting people in planning their vacations. Her family enjoyed sharing her map reading skills on their own vacations to Canada and New Hampshire.
She is survived by four children, Mary Jane Silvia of Manchester, NH, Arthur J. Silvia, and Anne Marie Silvia of Fall River, and Joseph H. Silvia and his wife JoAnn (Centrilla) Silvia of Richmond, RI. She also leaves seven grandchildren.
Calling hours will be April 7, from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 951 Stafford Road, Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. The arrangements are in the care of Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 North Main Street, Fall River. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
