Josephine "Jo" (McGovern) Ferguson, a lifelong resident of Charlestown and a 30 year snowbird resident of Jupiter, Florida, entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 96 years of age.
Josephine was born in Boston on October 26, 1921, a daughter of the late John McGovern and Sarah (McGovern) McGovern. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Josephine worked for many years as a Receptionist for several companies in the Boston area. Josephine's passion in life was her family and she was blessed with the dedication and devotion of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her long life.
Josephine is the beloved wife of the late Francis J. "Fran" Ferguson. She is the devoted mother of Maureen Hagerty and her late husband Richard of Charlestown, Joanne Eatherton and her husband Gilbert of Charlestown and Francis J. Ferguson and his wife Penny of Marshfield. She is the loving Nana to Noreen and her husband Sean, Boston Firefighter Thomas, Richard, Francis and Shannon and her husband Brian. She is the loving Nana Jo to Corporal Thomas U.S.M.C., Taylor, Keighan and Amelia. She is the beloved sister of the late Margaret Dunbar and Helen McGovern. She is the beloved sister-in-law of Joan Sodergren and the late Audrea Devlin. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Josephine's Funeral on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Her visiting hours will be on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
