Captain Edward J. Wiley, 77, of Fairhaven passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday March 31, 2018.
Born in Acushnet, he was the son of the late John Edward Wiley and Catherine (Robertson) Wiley.
Edward served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958-1962. He then worked in the railroad industry and as a correction officer at Walpole State Prison. He was later employed by the New Bedford Police Department until his retirement as Captain after 31 years of service. In his retirement years, he worked as a part-time bus driver for Tremblay Bus Company.
Captain Wiley was a graduate of Salve Regina University, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He was an elected member of the New Bedford Retirement Board.
Edward was dearly loved by his family and friends.
His survivors include his former wife, Jeanne Wiley; his children, Lori (Wiley) Boucher and her husband Gary of Prospect, CT, Debra (Wiley) Thatcher of Westport, Sean Wiley of Fredericksburg, VA, Kimberlee (Wiley) Nashold and her husband Daniel of Westport, and Jonathan Wiley and his wife Priscilla of Fairhaven; and fifteen grandchildren;
He was predeceased by his daughter, Tamara (Wiley) Roberts of Hollywood, FL.
At his request, there will be no calling hours. There will be a celebration of Edward's life at the Century House, 107 South Main St., Acushnet on Thursday April 5, 2018 from 6-10 PM.
