Obituary

Galanes, Josette "Joey" (Flack) - passed away peacefully on March 27 surrounded by her friends and caretakers whose love and tireless support assisted her in remaining in her own home, honoring her independent spirit.
Born on Nov. 18, 1920, Joey emigrated from Scotland at the age of three with her parents Mary and Sydney Flack, and two siblings, John and Maisie.
Once settled in the United States, Harry, Sydney and Jane joined the family, which resided in Somerville and Arlington. Carrying on the family tradition of hard work, shortly after graduating from Arlington High School Joey went to work for a wool company in Boston, and then for banks and accounting firms in the city. She retired from the Research Institute for Medicine and Chemicals in Cambridge at the age of 87. She will be lovingly remembered for her incredible memory that remained sharp until the end. She was the family historian and was intelligent, generous, and possessed a great wit. Joey was predeceased by her husband of 33 years Steve Galanes. She leaves behind her sister Jane Puopolo of Arlington, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends.
A private gathering is planned for a later date.
