David Ray Gryder, age 84, of Chase City, VA, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018. He was born January 30, 1934 in Stony Point, NC.
He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA. He retired from Virginia Power as a Lineman. Ray enjoyed traveling and has been to all fifty states, Canada, and Mexico. He loved music and singing. He sang in gospel quartets for over 40 years all over Southside, VA. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed a good conversation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Vernon Gryder and Ruby Grace Lackey Gryder; brother, William Gryder; and two sisters, Lorene Shelton and Reba Inge.
Ray is survived by his wife, Edith Barnette Gryder; daughter, Juanita Gryder Murray and husband, Marty of Raleigh, NC; two sons, David Vernon Gryder and wife, Katie of Chase City, VA and John Edmund Gryder and wife, Gail of Clarksville, VA; six grandchildren, Daniel Murray and wife, Carmen, Stacey Murray, Josh Gryder and wife, Ashley, Katie Wright and husband, Richard, Zach Franklin, and Brooke Dominguez and husband, Vinny; and three great-grandchildren, Grayson Gryder, Addison Gryder, and Nathaniel Ray Wright. He is also survived by three brothers, James Gryder, Norris Gryder, and Floyd Gryder; sister, Annie Holder; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2018 at Concord Baptist Church.
